Amethyst is a purple colored variety of quartz and derives it color from impurities such as iron, aluminium or manganese.

Prasiolite is a green colored Amethyst.

Citrine is yellow/orange color and is closely related to Amethyst.
Ametrine is a combination of Amethyst and Citrine and has a blending of both colors.

Clear Quartz, Smoky Quartz and Rose Quartz are part of the same family as Amethyst.

Amethyst is found in various locations around the world. Some of the most beautiful specimens of Amethyst are found in Brazil and Uruguay in South America.
